Gollum - Original 11x14 Oil Painting
Few characters in The Lord of the Rings are as tragic, or as unforgettable, as Gollum. Once a simple Stoor Hobbit named Sméagol, his life was forever changed the moment he laid eyes on the One Ring. Consumed by its corrupting power, he retreated into the darkness beneath the Misty Mountains, where centuries of isolation poisoned both his body and his mind. Torn between the remnants of Sméagol's humanity and the insatiable hunger of Gollum, he became a living reminder of the Ring's devastating influence.
Every swirling brushstroke seems alive with turmoil, reflecting the conflict raging within him. His gaunt face, sharp teeth, and hollow expression embody a creature trapped between pity and madness; a soul enslaved by a treasure that has already stolen everything.
Rather than portraying Gollum as a simple villain, this painting explores the tragedy of his existence. Beneath the monstrous appearance lies the faint echo of the Hobbit he once was, making his story one of Tolkien's greatest warnings about greed, addiction, and the slow erosion of identity. He is terrifying not because he was born evil, but because he became consumed by something he could never let go of.
